TikTok says ready to cooperate with Russian authorities

MOSCOW, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- TikTok is ready to cooperate with the Russian government, the social network said on Friday.

“A safe and positive environment in the application for TikTok Russian users is our chief priority and we constantly introduce protection measures against abuse. Since we take care about the ever growing TikTok community, we undertake the obligation to respect local laws and rules and cooperate with the relevant authorities and institutions,” the network said.

The Russian communications service said earlier it had started analyzing content of TikTok for any banned information and the check will take at least a month.

Several countries, including India and the U.S., earlier complained of the social network’s inappropriate content.

TikTok is a popular social network allowing users to create short videos and exchange messages. The application was launched in 2017 by ByteDance for markets outside China. ByteDance launched Douyin for the Chinese market in September 2016. TikTok and Douyin use the same software, but have separate networks to comply with the Chinese censorship restrictions.
